What is presented and why

The Rembrandt Database contains paintings that are generally accepted to be by Rembrandt, as well as paintings currently or formerly attributed to Rembrandt. No paintings have been included that are now generally agreed to be the work of known pupils of Rembrandt. 

Partner institutions catalogue and select the paintings and documentation on this website. The Rembrandt Database encourages contributors to be as generous as possible in their selection, but there are various reasons for not including a given document. In the case of certain documents, only their metadata (a basic description of a document and where it is kept) are included in the database, so that they can be accessed.
