New research data on Allentown’s 'Bust of a Young Woman' online

3 April 2020

The Allentown Art Museum and the Conservation Center Institute of Fine Arts of New York University have generously shared a selection of technical documents generated during the recent treatment of the painting Bust of a Young Woman.

February this year, it was announced in the press that The Allentown Art Museum reattributed the Bust of a Young Woman to Rembrandt after being regarded as a studio work since 1986. The Allentown Art Museum reasserted the traditional attribution of the painting based on the opinions of scholars who examined the work this past year, after the recent restoration. To further enable scholarly evaluation of the painting and its attribution, the museum now shares a selection of the recently created research documents via The Rembrandt Database, making them available to all.

We would like to thank Shan Kuang (Assistant Conservator and Research Scholar, The Conservation Center Institute of Fine Arts, NYU) for providing us with the research data.
