Launch renewed website
12 June 2018
Today the RKD – Netherlands Institute for Art History launches the fully updated Rembrandt Database website: www.rembrandtdatabase.org.
This English website makes available research material - texts, images and research data - on paintings by and/or (formerly) attributed to Rembrandt. Due to an increased number of faster-working capabilities on the renewed website, this research material is now even easier to access, simplifying research on Rembrandt paintings.
New functionalities
The renewed Rembrandt Database replaces the beta version which was launched in 2012. The updated website performs at a greater speed and offers comprehensive search functions. Aside from this, the website now has tools for printing, adding comments, making your own selections of data and downloading documents that are available for research purposes. The design of the website has been revised and the website is more user friendly.
The launch of the renewed website will be the starting point for several new additions to the database. Today the database has been enriched with information and documentation on Rembrandt’s Saul and David from the Mauritshuis, generated during the comprehensive research conducted on this painting during the last several years. This research data has been inventoried and edited with the support of The Johan Maurits Compagnie Foundation. This month, the Tiroler Landesmuseum in Innsbruck and the Städel Museum in Frankfurt will publish their research data online. Other partners such as The Leiden Collection in New York and the Staatsgalerie in Stuttgart will also share their data through the Rembrandt Database soon.
The database will be improved and expanded in the years to come and maintained by the RKD as one of its permanent facilities.
