6 paintings from the Gemäldegalerie in Dresden added to the database
26 March 2019
The Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden – Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister has added another group of 6 paintings to The Rembrandt Database.
This last group concerns the Rembrandt-related works, by his followers, for instance: Manoah's sacrifice and Man wearing a hat decorated with pearls.
Since 2014 the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden – Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister has been sharing research data on Rembrandt and Rembrandt-related paintings from its collection in stages. August 2014 the first four paintings were added to The Rembrandt Database, among which Rembrandt’s Rape of Ganymede. In October 2015 technical documents on another group of three paintings was made accessible online. With the online publication of the remaining 6 paintings, the collaboration with the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden – Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister has been completed. Thanks to the generosity of the museum in Dresden more than 600 research documents on 13 paintings are now accessible online for further research.
Many thanks to Uta Neidhardt (curator of Dutch and Flemish Paintings) and Marina Langner (conservator) for providing us with the research data and for working in close collaboration with the RKD on the online presentation.
